Hi there. If you’re new to my substack, welcome! You’ll find all kinds of posts from healing to personal development. I’m here to share the things I notice in my immediate environment. All writing (and video content) is from personal, tried and tested, experiments and observations.
Why do I observe, test and experiment stuff? Good question. Well, it’s because I want to understand myself.
But why do I want to understand myself? GREAT question. The more I understand myself, the more conscious I become. The more conscious my choices become, the more conscious my relationships become. My health and wellbeing improve because I understand what works and what doesn’t work for me. My peace is important to me.
You’re in my space here, and if you’re looking to heal yourself, improve your life, feel more at peace within, you’re going to get the crème de la crème. So I invite you to become a paid subscriber.
Every time I’m online socializing with podcasters, I get told self-love is important. It’s becoming more and more important with idiot politicians doing shit no one in their right mind would do. So if you are doing something, ANYTHING, that is improving your life and your wellbeing a teeny tiny percentage, you are doing a great job. Keep it up, even if no one is noticing. You’re doing it for no one but you. Biden, Trudeau and Xi don’t care about you and me.
Fuck them. I do. Thanks for being here. It tells me self-love is important to you!
Life can feel too serious at times. Lately I feel like I’m being pulled by life in all directions. I know what I need to do. I need to forget about everything else and focus on creating something physical, 3D, with my hands. It makes me forget time and hunger.
I have a teal dress making project that’s been brewing in my mind for the longest time. I got ideas for the dress when I was traveling in Japan and saying hello to every friendly dog and its owner. Isn’t that the cutest Maltese ever?? I got to practice my Japanese. Kawaii means cute in Japanese!
Todd and I have fallen in love with Japan. It’s peaceful. We wonder what it would be like to live there. While we’re here in Hong Kong, we do what we can to keep our mental and physical health in top order. In japan, it just happens by default. It’s a fucking way of life there! How amazing, right?
Traveling, and doing projects (together or individually), is what keeps our sense of wonder alive. What do you do that helps you stay present, and forget time and hunger?

Healing happens in the present. I was on a podcast interview yesterday where I talked about healing from childhood trauma. Did you know that trauma isn’t what happens to you but what happens as a result of what happened?
And trauma doesn’t go away. It stays as memory in the cells in your body until we become fully present to it. It’s useless to fix it with rumination (staying up in the head). You have to work with your body. Your body holds answers to your confusion, you have to take the time to listen to it. A noisy head or external environment are not conducive to mental health.
Mental health is not limited to the mind. When you do something that make you present, it involves your body and most of your senses. And you feel good or happy! The physical is not separate from the mental. One affects the other.
You have to get in touch with your emotions, feelings and sensations in the body. They tell you everything you need to know. Studying your behavior can help you to understand addictions and compulsive behaviors.
I’ve been trying something new lately. I don’t touch my phone for the first hour in the morning upon waking up. I drink water, bring out my yoga mat, stretch and exercise and spend time being. What’s happening as a result is that when I do find myself on my phone I’m able to remember what I wanted to do with it versus compulsive doom-scrolling. I notice that in case I slip up, I’m able to catch myself and use my phone instead of being used by it, ha! I feel like a winner in that moment.
